Mary Ruth's Speech to the Chamber of Commerce: "Don't forget the people!"
Many thanks to all the chambers who have worked together to make this event possible. If the good people of precinct 4 grant me a seat on Commissioners Court this November, I hope to bring the same spirit of cooperation that we see here today.
I intend to work for the betterment of not only of the constituents in precinct 4, but for all the nearly 250,000 citizens of Brazoria County. Our county is one of the most blessed and diversified of all the 254. We have:
- a strong industrial base
- a healthy farming/ranching community
- the booming Port in Freeport
- extraordinary public schools with many of the finest teachers and administrators in the state
- outstanding community colleges in both the north and south, and
- our tourist and recreational attractions are superb
And we have a very bright future.
I’ve lived in Brazoria County all my life and my experiences as a school teacher, my career in industry, my small cattle operation and my years of work in civic endeavors have prepared me for the office I seek.
My grandfather and father were county commissioners and I learned many important lessons from them. Of course, times have changed…..the issues have changed….. economic conditions have changed. But, there is one thing they taught me that has not changed.
And that is this: DON’T FORGET THE PEOPLE! LISTEN TO THEM!
Always believe in and trust and respect the goodness, decency and wisdom of the people of Brazoria County, always speak the truth to them and represent their interests at all times. If I am elected County Commissioner, I pledge to you I will do just that.
I ask for your support and your votes.
Thank you.
